We need economic structures that are geared towards goals that serve the common good and respect planetary boundaries, rather than endless growth and the exploitation of people and nature. The so-called Just Transition must develop new ways of enabling all people to live in dignity while respecting the well-being of our planet. However, this discourse often focuses on the so-called Global North and neglects important perspectives and approaches from the Global South.

The project therefore aims to create a space for discussing what a just transition means in concrete terms for economic development practice and which examples can serve as best practice for growth-independent economic structures and initiatives in the Global South and Global North. At the heart of the project is the two-day hybrid conference ‘Development Beyond Growth – Global and Local Perspectives on Just Transitions’ in Bonn, organised by NELA and its project partner IDOS. The conference is aimed at practitioners and academics interested in alternative models of global and local economic development. Panel discussions, keynotes and interactive workshops will create space for the exchange of perspectives, networking and reflection. The programme will be complemented by a public evening event in the form of a panel discussion.

The conference took place on 6 and 7 November 2024 at IDOS in Bonn and was held in English. Participation was free of charge.
